In March 2018, WWFHA and the Washington Wild were featured in various news articles during the 2018 Olympics and for the possible NHL expansion team in Seattle. Below are a few key TV and online pieces featuring WWFHA and its players.
Chris Daniels of King 5 TV attended the Monday Feb 9 practice of the Washington Wild 19UAA team, focusing on the female student-athletes and their efforts to compete at the highest level.
He interviewed Wild players at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett and captured video of the entire team practicing.

On February 5th, selected clips of the team practicing and a few comments from players were included in a timely story regarding the efforts to bring an NHL team to Seattle, entitled ‘NHL Executives Rave About Seattle.’
Comments on the impact a professional team would have on the community aired from Washington Wild 19UAA team captains Katherine ‘Cookie’ Cook and Allison Reeb and such hockey notables as Trevor Linden, Vancouver Canucks Team President; Canucks Head Coach Travis Green and team owner Francesco Aquilini; Vegas Golden Knights President and alternate governor Kerry Bubolz; Jeff Vinik owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning; Brayden Schenn of the St. Louis Blues, Carey Price of the Canadiens, Sidney Crosby, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and others.
The Seattle SinBin, the hockey arm of the SonicsRising online blog, points out the impact that the U.S. and Canadian Women’s Hockey Olympians have made in the Seattle area. They also mention WWFHA’s role in connecting players to some of the top female hockey players in the world.
The Seattle area boasts the presence of several female hockey Olympians. The NHL to Seattle group hosted Canadian Olympian Natalie Spooner in 2017, and WWFHA’s Honorary Board includes U.S. Olympians Michelle Picard and Lindsay Fry, who support the organization on several levels and mentor the student-athletes. In addition, Swedish Olympian Josefin Pettersson Shakya serves as an assistant coach for the 19UA team and on the WWFHA Pro-Staff as a physical therapist.
Despite their rivalry on the ice, all the Olympians are generous with their time and all want to grow the game.
