Will play for the NCAA DIII Seahawks starting in the fall of 2016

Congratulations to Washington Wild 19U Rep team’s senior captain, Mikayla Anderson!  Accepted by Salve Regina University in Rhode Island, Mikayla will pursue a nursing degree while playing ice hockey for their women’s NCAA DIII Seahawks starting in fall of 2016.

Mikayla: “I am so lucky to have the opportunity to play hockey and study nursing at such a great school, and I still can't believe it's actually happening. I am very excited about my future at Salve, but my time with the Washington Wild has been so special. I am so grateful to WWFHA for all the guidance over the years. It's going to be incredibly hard to say goodbye to people who have been such a huge part of my life for so long, but I know I'll end up back here.”

Mikayla hails from University Place, WA and has played hockey for eight years--five of which were with WWFHA. After spending two seasons in development with the Washington Wild 14U and 19U teams, she made the 19U Rep Tier 2 team. She captained the Rep team for the last three successful seasons, and steered them to the Canadian 2014-15 PCAHA Midget Female Presidents Series championship title, two second place finishes at the USA Hockey Tier II Girls 19U National Championships, and several tournament championship titles.

In the past two years, Mikayla played 106 regular season and tournament games and tallied 14 goals and 37 assists for 51 points with a 46.7 shot-on-goal percentage and 0.48 goals per game.

Her current coach, Shaun Miller, speaks of Mikayla highly, saying, “She's the most loyal, hardworking player that I have ever seen. She's a big reason why WWFHA is such a close family, as she goes way out of her way to talk with every player no matter which team they are on to make them feel welcome. Mikayla can probably name every player in the association!”

Salve Regina University offers a comprehensive education with a liberal arts foundation. The NCAA DIII school’s women’s ice hockey team participates in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC). Established in 2000, the team boasts a winning percentage over 500 for most of the last seven years. They have attended three conference semifinals and one final.

Coach McCann

Head coach Beth McCann, who has been behind the Seahawks’ bench for the last two years, states, “Salve Regina University proudly welcomes a student-athlete like Mikayla. She possesses the characteristics and passion that will enhance our women's ice hockey program and student body as a whole. She will be a great asset to our program.”

The WWFHA Family is proud of Mikayla’s accomplishments on and off the ice; she is an outstanding student-athlete, leader and community member, and we thank her for her contributions to our association.
