Congratulations to Alex Nurse, who just received a 50% hockey scholarship to attend and play for Robert Morris University (RMU) women’s non-varsity hockey team! Alex was a veteran with the Washington Wild and chose to go to RMU and play for their prestigious non-varsity American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) non-varsity team (vs. play for St. Cloud State University, NCAA DI team) . RMU boast 9 appearances at the ACHA Women’s National Championships where they were they won the National Champions twice, were a three time runner up, and to...ok third place three times.

While scholarships are typically known for NCAA DI varsity programs and not for NCAA DIII teams, a new trend is emerging in the ACHA where top non-varsity women’s teams have been attracting top talent by offering scholarships. The level of play on these elite ACHA teams is commonly compared to NCAA DIII, and players are known to select an ACHA school for the academics and location over NCAA DI and DIII schools; however, now they are selecting ACHA teams for scholarships as well!

Congratulations to Alex and best of luck! This is an exciting time to be an up-and-coming female player with so many options!
