2014-15 WWFHA Mid-Season Report

Regular Season

Another fast and furious Western Washington Female Hockey Association (WWFHA) season flashes by with a lot of exciting news to report mid-season.  Highlights:

  • Season Tryouts (August)

    • A record-setting number of players attended this year’s tryouts for the U14, U19 and U19 Rep teams!

  • Season Kick Off Event (September)
    • Every player received a free hockey bag and practice jerseys, and local 2006 US Women’s Hockey Olympian Kelly Stephens Tysland was the keynote speaker.

  • New Website (June)
    • New website launched that includes online registration, team pages, team and player stats, news, information, calendar, mobile app to follow teams, and more!

  • Honorary Board Members Announced
    • New this season, the honorary board supports the WWFHA mission, acts as advisors, and champions our organization.

      • Kelly Stephens Tysland – USA Women’s Ice Hockey Olympian

      • Stacey Rondeau Livingston – Olympic Official

      • Kelly Katorji – Independent Collegiate Scout

  • New Pro-Staffers Monthly Meetings
    • New this season, professional staff support and develop players to provide a well-rounded experience on and off the ice.

      • Rene Czerwinski – well body counselor

      • Mary Howley-Ryan and Meghan Cichy – dietitians / nutritionists

  • PCAHA League Games Begin for U19 Rep and U19 teams
    • Exhibition and placement games began in September--season started in October.

  • NPSHL League Games Begin for the U14 team

    • League games began in September.

  • U19 Rep Team Attends the Pacific Coast Female AAA Rep Hockey Classic (October)

  • WWFHA in the Community (October)
    • Washington Wild in support of MPHS

WWFHA U19 and U14 Teams in Kamloops

  • U19 and U14 teams Meet US National Players at the 4 Nations Cup (November)
    • Both teams enjoy the US vs. Sweden game and meet US National Team Players afterwards, asking questions and taking pictures.

    • U19 player, Leah Johnson, is selected to participate in the ‘Experience a Dream’ event. Leah skated in on-ice warm-ups with the US National team and stood on the blue line with the starting line-up during the national anthems!

    • The teams also attend the US vs. Canada Gold Medal Game with Canada winning in a shoot-out.

  • U19 Rep Team Competes in the Fire On Ice Tournament – Rochester, NY (November)
    • The Rep team travels to one of the most highly scouted tournaments in the US.

    • Several players visit local colleges and connect with coaches.

  • U19 Team Participates in the Outdoor Winter Classic Jamboree – Kalispell, MT (January)
  • Successful Year-End Donation Drive
    • Thanks to everyone who donated in 2014; we broke last year’s record by a wide margin!

  • The Second Half of the Season Will be Just as Busy and Exciting!

    • All Washington Wild team return to their regular league play and look forward to playoffs

    • U19 Rep team attends the Abbotsford Ice Tournament – Abbotsford, BC (January)

    • 2015 PNAHA Washington State Girls’ Development Camp – Bellingham, WA (January 24-25) - More info here

    • U19 Rep team participates in USA Hockey Districts –San Jose, CA (March 4-8)

    • All WWFHA teams compete in the 18th Annual Richmond Ice Classic Tournament – Richmond, BC (March 20-22)

Summer

  • Watch the website for camps, clinics and tryouts this summer

  • Summer team in the Beantown Classic – Marlboro, MA (July)

    • A team will travel to Marlboro, MA to attend one of the premier amateur showcase events with over 180 scouts in attendance.

    • Tryouts April 18 – 19, 2015 at Olympicview
