Letter from the New Wild President - Jenn Wood

  • Background
  • New projects
  • Call for Volunteers

Hello Wild Families! As your newly elected President of the Washington Wild, I am ready to dive into this role at an exciting time of change as we move into our new home at Northgate and expand and continue to grow the great game of hockey for the girls of our area.

A little background on me: I have been working to grow girls’ hockey in the Puget Sound area for over a decade. I created the very first Washington State 8U girls’ team at SJHA in 2011, ran four years of Ice Hawks tournament teams at the 8U/10U and 12U levels from 2012-2015, coached the first Wild 12UAA team in 2015, created the Sno-King Girls’ Program in 2018 - growing that from one to four teams in three years, and this next season I will be coaching the 12UAAA Wild team.

I served as the Beginner Director for Sno-King for nine years, and have been on the board for the Wild for four years. I have two hockey-playing children – my son played his rep hockey at Sno-King (I coached his 14UAA team and his high school hockey team), and my daughter started with the Wild in 2015 and is still playing. I am a Level 4 certified USA Hockey Coach (since 2013), a member of the NHL Coaches Association Female Development Program, and this summer I have been invited to staff the USA Hockey National Camp for U15 Girls.

I am excited to get to serve our Wild hockey family. I want to get to know our families and move our association toward a vibrant and growing future for our girls. My door is open – I want to hear your feedback and suggestions for both now and the future of the Wild. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

I have several new projects that I will be getting underway in the next few months, including:

College Advising and Coaching for our older players.

Increasing the Volunteer staff to help out our board.

Try Hockey Free Days to help us grow!

As a first step, I am asking parents who are interested in volunteering to contact me. We have a Volunteer Committee run by board member Ryan Gulick, and we are looking for help in several areas:

Equipment – ordering and managing

Event Planning and Organization

Graphic/Web Design

Also – Tryouts are Coming! Registration is Open! Find details on the website: wwwfha.com

I look forward to hearing from you - contact me at jennwood@wwfha.com

Go Wild!
