Overview

WWFHA's mission is to empower girls through the sport of ice hockey
so they can reach their goals and dreams on and off the ice.

Your donation to Western Washington Female Hockey Association (WWFHA) supports the Washington Wild and Seattle Red Hawks teams. Our goal is to help empower girls through the sport they love and help them grow into stronger members of their community.

WWFHA provides girls the opportunity to play on all-girl teams in a traditionally male-dominated sport.  WWFHA is a member of USA Hockey, Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association (PNAHA), Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association (PCAHA) and British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association (BC Hockey). We have partnered with Seattle Junior to provide our teams a stable and supportive environment while enabling girls to compete closer to home.

Your donation will go a long way in providing girls the access and opportunity to play hockey and gain valuable experiences on and off the ice.   Learn more about our history, mission, vision, philosophy and more in the About section of the website.

Now more than ever, as ice fees and equipment costs rise, your generosity ensures that participation in the Washington Wild and Seattle Red Hawks programs remains affordable for all females interested. All donations go towards season scholarships and shared equipment replacement costs.

WWFHA is organized as a non-profit association and operates under IRS code 501(c)(3), Tax ID 75-3028953. Thus, your contribution may be fully tax-deductible.

Please consider making a donation in one of the ways listed below. We welcome the opportunity to answer questions or offer more information about how your donation will be put to work. Contact us at info@wwfha.com.

The Power of Scholarships

When the Wild was born, WWFHA pledged to grow girls’ hockey in the northwest and give young female athletes the opportunity to learn to skate and play.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary this year, we are even more committed to making ice hockey at every level accessible to females in the community, regardless of their family’s economic means.

With this in mind, we want to introduce you to one of our members who wants to share their story, as it is an example of what hockey can do for young females when they are given a chance to play.

This story is about a girl getting the chance to play hockey through our scholarship program, but it’s also about what she gets from playing girl’s hockey – confidence, fitness and learning new things.

Her mom writes: “My daughter discovered hockey through a WWFHA Girls’ Try Hockey for Free event.  She fell in love with the sport that day and I wanted to immediately get her involved with the sport as much as I could; however, I was worried about the high costs of playing the game.

Now, after her first full season her excitement and passion for the sport has remained unchanged... as well as her dream to play goalie.

My daughter was given the opportunity to play hockey because of a WWFHA scholarship. Since then hockey has provided her with confidence, fitness, and a drive to learn new skills. Her grades have improved and has had a profound impact on her efforts to overcome anxiety.

We cannot express our gratitude for this organization and the game my daughter loves. Without a scholarship this would not have been possible.”

There is no cookie cutter scholarship recipient: the players awarded these funds are developing skills, playing for fun, playing competitively, or some combination of the three.

Fundraising and donation support are key to allowing us to continue to provide scholarship funding and continue growing the game of girls' hockey here in the pacific northwest.
