With a heavy heart we announce that the Washington Wild family suffered a loss last week as Nancy Babienko passed away after her spirited battle with cancer.

Nancy was a coach in WWFHA’s inaugural girls’ Learn-to-Play beginner class in January 2016 as she introduced her daughter Annika to all-girl hockey for the first time. Nancy was extremely supportive of all the girls – working the entire time with the very newest of hockey players each week to get them independent on their feet. Several of these players are still skating with WWFHA today and were part of the historical, first-ever 8U and 10U girls’ teams in the state. Nancy also participated on the WWFHA’s inaugural adult women’s tournament team in March of 2016, the Wild Women.

Nancy was hired to work for Woodinville High School in 2003 in English/Language Arts, as well as German and ELL. She was also a part-time English Language Arts Teacher on Special Assignment from 2014 to 2016. WWFHA echoes the sentiments of the Northshore School District Superintendent Michelle Reid when she says, “Nancy was an outstanding educator who has made a lasting impact on generations of young people in our community.”

We celebrate, honor and remember Nancy and her impact on so many students, athletes, friends, and colleagues. She was a remarkable woman and she will be greatly missed. Please join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to the Babienko family during this difficult time.

Respectfully,
Colin Nurse - President
