We Need You! 'Fill the Stick' Campaign

Thirteen years ago WWFHA pledged to grow girls’ hockey in the northwest and give young female athletes the opportunity to learn to skate and play.

Today, we are even more committed to making ice hockey at every level accessible to females in the community, regardless of their family’s economic means.  With this commitment, we not only want to continue to subsidize the sport for each player and provide financial assistance scholarships, but also to promote health and wellness in the community by introducing many girls to this great sport.

We need your help -- now more than ever! Thus, we are launching two overlapping giving campaigns to ‘FILL THE STICK’ by the end of the year:

1. Year-End Membership Giving: #WhenGivingGoWild

  1. Goal: $10,000

  2. Information: We ask our members to consider a $100 donation to WWFHA. If 100 members donate $100 each, we will hit our target! We understand that not everyone can make a donation of this magnitude; however, every dollar helps and if you can give more we hope you will consider it!

  3. How: There are two simple ways to donate and receive a tax exemption for 2015:

    1. Write a check payable to ‘WWFHA’ and mail to WWFHA – PO Box 77687, Seattle, WA 98177

    2. Donate via PayPal: http://www.wwfha.com/wwfha-donations

  4. Tracking: We are tracking our ‘Fill the Stick’ donations through an illustration of a Wild Hockey Stick.

2. National Giving Campaign: #GivingTuesday December 1

  1. Goal: $10,000

  2. Information: Tuesday, December 1, 2015 is #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving. Last year, more than 27,000 organizations in 68 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday.  Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities.

  3. How: Spread the Word

    1. Send an email on our behalf. We need your help to reach out to your network. In the coming days, we will provide sample emails and updates that you can send to your family, friends and associates.

    2. Social media: Use the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #WhenGivingGoWild when sharing about WWFHA as an organization you support. Help us attain our goal by sharing and reposting when you receive updates on our campaign!

The Impact of Your Giving

Your involvement in the above two giving initiatives allows WWFHA to continue to be strong and grow and provide hockey to the community. Three core areas will benefit from your efforts.

1. Subsidized WWFHA Dues

WWFHA subsidizes over $25,000 each year in dues to reduce costs for families, which equates to nearly $400 per player. With the addition of new teams, we must raise more funds to continue to subsidized costs.

2. Scholarships

Each season, WWFHA raises approximately $10,000 to provide scholarships for players with financial need. With increase in membership size, there is a concomitant increase in need. Help your fellow families by donating to help cover this season’s scholarships.

3. Continued Implementation of a Beginner Program

WWFHA’s own beginner program starts in January 2016! Our objective is to minimize ice and equipment costs so more girls can try the sport. We hope you can help start a new generation of female players!

Other Ways To Help

1. Company Match

Double the impact of your matching gift today! Many companies in our area match their employees' contributions. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, WWFHA is eligible for these matching gifts. Match gifts are usually dollar-for-dollar, but some employers double or even triple the amount of your contribution. Corporate matching gifts maximize the influence of gifts to WWFHA. For example, Boeing, Liberty Mutual Group, Microsoft, RealNetworks, and Starbucks offer matching donations. Use this donation search tool to check if your employer provides a matching donation program.

First, search by company name and then choose from the list of employers provided. The individual corporate profile contains specific details about the amount allowed, along with links to the company's website, email addresses, etc. If your company is not listed, please contact your HR department directly and inquire about their corporate giving and donation policy.

2. Company Volunteering

If your company offers a volunteer matching program, please consider volunteering and submitting your hours to your employer for matching funds.

3. Stock Donation

Thanks to our friends at UBS, you may use securities to make your gift to WWFHA . Stock donations are a great way to maximize your donation and minimize your tax burden. Contact info@wwfha.com for more details.

In the Coming Weeks

  • Watch your email for updates, progress reports (Fill the Stick), and more information.

  • Look for pictures of the players promoting the hash tag campaign on social media.

  • Share, repost, retweet the images we send out via social media (like the ones above and below) and help us get the word out to your network of family and friends who want to grow the girls’ game as well!

Thank You!
